Quick Tidbits: Bite-Sized Facts and Fun Insights

I thought it would be fun to start a new weekly series called “Tidbits.” It will be a casual, eclectic collection where I share short thoughts, useful links, favorite discoveries, recipes I want to try, blogs and products I love, and dishes I’ve recently made that might not fit into a full post. I hope you enjoy it — feedback is always welcome. Here we go!

1) I enjoyed a Food & Wine piece called “Sustainable Seafood: The Good News.” It’s an encouraging look at responsible seafood choices and made me curious to visit my local Asian market to see if they carry Northern Porgy.

2) I’m eager to try the New York Times Shakshuka with Feta. With eggs, feta, tomato and peppers, it promises bold flavor and quick prep—exactly my kind of weeknight dish.

3) Speaking of eggs, while baking banana bread recently I cracked open a double-yolk “twin” egg. Apparently the odds are about 1 in 1,000, which made my day and added a small moment of kitchen delight.

4) I need to pick up some PrintSmitten cards. They make light, funny apologies for when my family’s occasional “hangry” outbursts happen. I’m tempted to buy a handful for everyone in the household.

5) If I had more patience (and a spare tree stump), I’d attempt the DIY tree stump side tables featured on A Beautiful Mess. They’re rustic, simple projects that look great in a relaxed living space.

6) These doughnuts from Top With Cinnamon are calling my name. Real, fried yeast doughnuts will be on my kitchen agenda soon. In the meantime, I’ll be poring over photos and planning flavors—so feel free to stare at them along with me.
