Cozy hot chocolate overnight oats topped with a rich chocolate cashew cream. Ideal for batch-prepped mornings—serve chilled or warmed for a comforting start to the day.

Hello everyone!
This week I tried something new and went live on Instagram for the first time. Taking photos is one thing, but being on video felt different—more immediate and a little nerve-rattling. I found myself adjusting the light and reapplying lip balm like a nervous ritual. In those few moments before the broadcast started, my kiddo Harper abandoned me on the couch, which made me laugh and eased the tension.
Despite the jitters, the live conversation was fun and meaningful. It reminded me that communicating a message is more important than worrying about how I’ll be perceived. That small shift in mindset encouraged me to keep stretching beyond what feels comfortable.
To celebrate getting out of my comfort zone, I’m sharing an easy, indulgent breakfast: Hot Chocolate Overnight Oats with a simple three-ingredient chocolate cashew cream. It’s decadent but straightforward—perfect when mornings are busy and you still crave something comforting.

Hot Chocolate in Overnight Oats
With the holidays approaching, my schedule has been busier than usual. Simple meals that still feel special are my go-to, and that’s where these overnight oats come in. They capture the nostalgia of hot chocolate while being practical for busy mornings. Make a few jars ahead of time and you’ll have a comforting breakfast ready to grab and go.
Overnight oats keep the whole texture of the oats intact and avoid the gummy consistency that sometimes results from stovetop cooking. They’re creamy, chocolatey, and hold up well when stored in jars. Top them with the cashew cream for a luscious finishing touch.

Modern Oats
I’ve been enjoying pre-measured oat blends lately because they make breakfast effortless. A plain, high-quality oat blend—one labeled simply as “just oats” when you can find it—is a great base for this recipe. Instant cups or portioned packets are handy for grab-and-go meals and many brands offer gluten-free options for those who need them.
Using a neutral oat base allows the chocolate and cashew flavors to shine. If you prefer, choose steel-cut or rolled oats according to your texture preference, but keep in mind that soak times will vary.

How to Serve Hot Chocolate Overnight Oats
These oats work well straight from the fridge or gently warmed for a truer hot chocolate experience. If you don’t want to make the cashew cream, the oats are delicious on their own—rich, chocolatey, and slightly fudgy.
For toppings, I like a spoonful of almond milk yogurt, a handful of fresh berries, and generous shavings of dark chocolate. The contrast between the cool, creamy yogurt and the intensely chocolatey oats is delightful.
Leftover oats will keep in the refrigerator for several days, making this a reliable option for meal prep. The cashew cream also stores well in an airtight container and can be used on other breakfasts, smoothies, or desserts.
Enjoy!
