I’m not a big fan of the whole “New Year’s resolutions” idea.
People who know me would say I’m determined. If something can be started today, why wait until January? I prefer starting things when it makes sense for me, not because a date on the calendar tells me to.
I’ve also been told I have great self-control. I don’t see the point of bingeing only at the holidays — I’d just eat whatever I want all the time. I’m kidding, of course. The truth is I live by moderation. The quantity of sweets I enjoy in December is about the same as in March: a small brownie or a bowl of ice cream is often enough. Does anyone else feel that way?
Even though I’m sharing this fun smoothie, it won’t replace my nightly dessert. Chocolate is my soul food. This smoothie is more likely to replace my usual yogurt or a post-workout granola bar. Yes, I have a predictable routine — yogurt almost every day — but yogurt is great for digestion.
What I do want to say is how much fun this smoothie is to make and serve!
This is a two-layer green monster orange smoothie: two colorful, healthy layers that look amazing together.
The green monster layer combines frozen banana, pineapple, mango, a generous handful of spinach, and a splash of water or milk to help blend. The orange layer uses frozen banana, fresh peeled orange, mango, carrots (baby carrots or a large carrot), and orange juice. That’s two vegetables included — hooray! Pour the layers into glasses and you get a vibrant, tasty drink.
For a playful finishing touch, top each glass with a toothpick or skewer threaded with small pieces of the fruits and veggies used in the smoothies.
