The perfect drink for a neighborhood Christmas cookie exchange or a New Year’s Eve gathering, this warm Crockpot Hot Toddy is a family-friendly favorite. I serve it to adults and children alike, and sometimes make it as an after-school treat for my boys and the crowd of friends who come over.
For best results, start the toddy several hours before serving—Crockpots can take time to reach an even temperature and allow the spices to infuse fully.
Crockpot Hot Toddy

Ingredients
- 4 quarts water
- 8 herbal tea bags
- 1-2 inches fresh ginger, thinly sliced
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- ⅓ cup honey
- 2 lemons, sliced
Instructions
-
Place the water, tea bags, sliced ginger, cinnamon sticks and honey into the crockpot and set to the highest setting.
-
Allow the mixture to steep for a couple of hours, until it is thoroughly heated and the spices have infused the liquid.
-
When ready to serve, use a ladle to transfer the toddy into cups and add lemon slices to taste.
Equipment

When making hot toddies, add the lemon at the end of the cooking process. If lemon is cooked too long with the spices, the rind can turn bitter and overpower the drink.
I lightly sweeten this version so guests who prefer less sugar can enjoy it. I set out extra honey and a no-calorie sweetener for those who want a sweeter cup.
