Happy weekend!

We’ve had a very wet week here — I think it rained almost every day. I say “I think” because I spent a couple of days flat on my back with vertigo (this is Anne writing this week). Have you ever experienced vertigo? I’ve had it since high school, and it runs in my family. For me and my dad, sinus issues and seasonal allergies often trigger it. Sometimes it’s as simple as sleeping on the same side. There’s not much to do except lie still and wait for it to pass, but I’m feeling almost back to normal today.

Being under the weather always reminds me to appreciate my health more. Difficult moments have a way of making me notice the small things I might otherwise take for granted. What’s one little thing you’re grateful for? If you’d like, hit reply or leave a comment at the end of this post and tell me.

Even though it still feels like summer outside, once the kids return to school my mind naturally drifts to fall. I have a favorite tea that feels perfect for the season, and I also love a chilled pumpkin-spice shake that captures fall flavors while keeping me cool. Both are great transitional treats as the calendar moves toward autumn.

I’ve been missing the sound of my children in the house. My husband and I are enjoying extra time together — that’s been a silver lining of this empty nest season — but the house feels very quiet. If you’re an empty nester, I’d love to hear your tips for adjusting to this chapter.

With our kids heading to college, one thing that gives me peace of mind is a care box I packed and sent along with them. I’m also planning some fun care packages to mail in a few weeks; a friend gave me a fun idea for a college Halloween package that I can’t wait to try.

This summer both AnnMarie and I had our houses painted. Our neighborhood builder used Hardie Plank fiber cement siding, which benefits from occasional maintenance like fresh paint every 12–15 years. AnnMarie gave her home a dramatic makeover — wait until you see the new look!
