This Cherry Chocolate Banana Ice Cream captures the flavors of a favorite pint—real cherries and chocolate pieces—in a dairy-free take on Cherry Garcia.

We’re in the middle of a heat wave, with temperatures in the 90s and no relief in sight. The beach was hot and still this weekend, but cold treats saved the day. After a few days of intense heat I often lose my appetite until my body adjusts, but I always crave something cool and refreshing.
When I’m at home, my go-to is a form of banana-based ice cream. A few years back I posted a no-churn Double Chocolate Chip Banana Ice Cream that remains a favorite because it’s effortless. Still, I enjoy experimenting with whatever fresh fruit is on hand.
My husband adores Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia, and I love recreating a similar experience at home—without fussing over an ice cream maker or churning. Instead I keep it simple: blend the ingredients in a high-powered blender like a Vitamix, freeze briefly if you want scoopable texture, and enjoy. For a quick fix I often skip the final freezing step and eat it directly from the blender as a thick, smoothie-style treat.

For this version I halved fresh cherries from the fridge, but frozen cherries work well too. You can also swirl some cherry purée into the base for a pinker appearance if you like a visually bold dessert.

About cherries
