Crispy Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries Recipe

Make a batch of oven-baked sweet potato fries for a simple, delicious side dish. This easy recipe yields crispy, flavorful fries with minimal oil.

Oven-Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet potato fries are one of my favorite side dishes. I prefer them to regular fries because they bring a natural sweetness and more nutrients, and when baked properly they can be just as satisfying and crispy.

We don’t eat fries every day, so when we do I try to make a healthier version. Baking the fries uses far less oil than frying, and sweet potatoes add fiber, vitamins, and minerals. A little planning—like soaking the cut potatoes briefly—helps remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

This oven-baked version is straightforward and dependable. Follow the simple steps below and you’ll have a batch of addictive fries that pair well with burgers, sandwiches, or a green salad.

Recipe for Oven-Baked Sweet Potato Fries

  • sweet potatoes
  • cornstarch
  • olive oil
  • paprika
  • garlic powder
  • salt and pepper

How to make Oven-Baked Sweet Potato Fries

  1. Place the sweet potatoes in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Let them soak for 30 minutes to remove some of the surface starch.
  2. Preheat the oven to 450°F (about 230°C) while the potatoes soak.
  3. Drain the potatoes and pat them completely dry with a clean towel. In a large bowl, toss the fries with cornstarch, olive oil, paprika, and garlic powder until evenly coated. Spread the fries on a baking sheet in a single layer so they can crisp up instead of steaming.
  4. Bake for 18 minutes, then flip the fries and continue baking another 10 minutes or until they are golden and crisp to your liking.
  5. Remove from the oven and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately for the best texture.
